Our guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel in Mandalay and take you on a short drive to the Mandalay Jetty. Then you will cross the Irrawaddy River to Mingun on a private boat. The journey by boat from Mandalay to Mingun takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes and follows the upstream flow of the river. The return trip on the boat is downstream, so it will take approximately an hour.
When you get to Mingun, you will first go to the unfinished Mingun Pagoda (Mingun Paya), which King Bodawpaya built out of bricks. Your guide will tell you why it wasn't finished, even though it would have been one of the biggest pagodas in the world. Due to many earthquakes, the monument was broken and is now only known for a small part. You can get to the Hsinbyume Pagoda by walking through the village. Its history and white color draw tourists. Before going back to Mandalay, you'll see the Mingun Bell, which is the second-largest working bell in the world and weighs 90 tons. It's a very important part of religious life in the area.
