"We loved staying at the Grand Laurel. We spent 3 nights there and then 1 more night on our way back from Inle Lake en route for Bangkok. We had a deluxe double room which was super spacious, with beautiful parquet floor, excellent air conditioning and WiFi. The staff is very pleasant, kind and gentle. They provide excellent advice about what to do, where to go and price of taxis. We slept like babies. Our room was on the street side, on the 7th floor, but very quiet, we did not hear the traffic at all (there is little traffic at night). We did not close the curtains, as the road is very wide. The restaurant is on the top floor (9th floor) from which one has a first view of the Shwedagon Paya. Very good feeling! One can also see the spires of St Mary's Cathedral which is just one block away. Food is excellent. Good value for money as well. The Grand Laurel is very well located, in Botataung, walking distance (4 blocks) from the mighty Irrawaddy River, the Strand Hotel (we popped into the bar to have a drink there, also for sake of soaking up history) and some very nice dining places, i.e. the Monsoon and Shan Yoe Yar restaurnat (latter requires a taxi ride). Walking, even at night, is very safe. The hotel is also walking distance away from the Botataung Paya. It's a short taxi ride away from the Shwedagon Paya."

"Pretty closed to every where and most of popular places are 5 - 10 min walking distance.5 minutes walk to near by church & when General Aung San was killed. 15 minutes walk to Scott Market & Sule Pagoda."

"The best hotel we stayed in while visiting Myanmar. Travelling with our teenage son, we had a large family room. Beds were comfortable and there was a table we could sit around and play cards or read. Room - including the bathroom - was very clean. Breakfasts on level 9 had fantastic views of the city and the food was great. Western and local breakfast."

"We have stayed at the Grand Laurel three times - this little place is always clean. The hotel staff are every friendly, it is clean. The location is great. Their breakfast is very good and keeps you full almost until dinner. For the price, this is a great choice. I'd recommend top floors due to the street noise - it is quieter up higher."

"This hotel has spacious rooms, well maintained , good air conditioner, bright light and has all facilities one can think. The breakfast is just average. If u are ok bread butter jam and omelettes then shouldn’t be of any worry. Vegetarian will have problems. This hotel doesn’t serve food in the room and Restuarant closes by 8 pm You have number of places close by .. I will stay here again."

"We had left a rivercruise and intended to stay one night, very very pleasant experience. The room was small and faced the street, but clean and in good condition. We made a few requests of the staff which they responded to quickly and politely. We had dinner on the 9th floor restaurant with views over Yangon to Schwe Dagon Pagoda and watched the sunset. Dinner was very nice, well prepared and cheap.....Both if us eating for $11.00 USD. Overall a very pleasant experience, and would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel."

"I was here with an Intrepid group and was pleasantly surprised at how nice a hotel this was, since I had been told that Yangon lacks good moderately priced hotels. The personnel in reception were excellent and went out of their way to help out in whatever was needed. The room was clean and surprisingly not very noisy, considering that it looked out onto a main street. The location is very central and you can get almost everywhere on foot. The only downside is that the breakfast was a bit repetitive."

"I was visiting Myanmar from California, and I stayed here for 6 nights. My family isn't used to the hot weather in Myanmar, so we were really concerned about working ACs in hotel rooms. Grand Laurel's AC units were AMAZING - the rooms were very cold and even when the power went out, the generator went on in order to keep the electricity functioning. STAFF - Very accommodating and nice. Were fast at answering the phone and promptly answered requests. They also helped carry our luggage to our rooms. You can tip in Myanmar if you wish, but it's not required. WIFI - They provide free wifi and it's quite fast. Probably one of the fastest hotel wifis that I've ever used. FREE BREAKFAST - They have a very extensive breakfast menu. I'm Burmese, so I ate the traditional items - mohinga (fish noodle soup), oh noh khao sweh (coconut noodle soup), fried rice/noodles but they also have other items such as toast/jam/eggs. There's something for everyone, and all items are made-to-order so they come out hot. The dining room on the 9th floor also has a terrific view of the city, including Shwedagon Pagoda is the distance. LOCATION - Located on a main street in front of a bus stop. Also easy to call taxis, Grab drivers. There are a variety of local food stores on the block, and it's located about 3 blocks from a morning local market. There's also really good milk tea located one block down (I think the name was City Breeze)."
