"We expected and got a good room and good food but the standout feature was the all round charm of the staff. Yangon is not ,in our view , a place to savour but being able to retreat to the Savoy makes the experience tolerable"

"We visited this hotel for a High Tea snd then had drinks in the bar! The tea was outstanding the service immaculate ! A must location if you are visiting Yangon. The service and quality of the time of British rule has been restored after a period of dictatorial rule by the military junta! It is to be hoped that more visitors will go there and to Yangon as the attempts by the new government to restore the country will be best helped by torusm and opening up! The circle trsin snd the Strsnd Hotel represent a continuity with the past which the military junta sought to destroy! Thanks to entrepreneurship this Hotel has begun a fight back against the forces of corruption and other marvellous buildings and schools will come back and the prestige of the University of Rangoon will be restored! You can experience some of this by having High Tea and the N evening cocktail in the Bar!"

"We had a wonderful massage and a substantial high tea on our last day in Yangon. I Highly recommend the package as we were able to also use the pool and gym. We had a choice of a classic tea - with sandwiches, beautifully prepared cakes and scones, and also the Myanmar tea - with ginger thoke, spring roll, and small bite sized traditional sweets. The pool was well maintained and not heavily chlorinated."

"You just gotta stay here if in Yangon. It’s a grande dame of a historic hotel & still lives up well to its 5 star reputation. It’s in a great location & from the moment you enter to when you sadly have to say goodbye, you feel in lux mode. The design is colonial gorgeous and the service is spot on. I loved sipping bubbly by their lovely pool area, then having a terrific pedicure in their spa (that flawlessly lasted the remaining 3 weeks of our trip), and later, enjoying the live jazz band in their iconic bar while playing a game of pool & sipping perfectly-mixed manhattans. The included breakfast is the best we’ve ever had anywhere—the divine chef & kitchen here make it really tough to want to go out to eat when you can eat so deliciously in-house. Our room/suite was spacious & gorgeous with a fantastic bed & linens. And the service overall at this hotel is terrific of course. Loved it all, highly recommended, wish we’d stayed more than 3 nights. A very minor criticism: our bathroom had a large water-damage ceiling stain and the shower grout was black making it look like mold but it was just in need of a total re-grout & the shower is quite small so you can’t shave your legs in it, etc. (& there’s room for it to have been made bigger so that’s odd). But we loved this hotel so much that this minor cosmetic stuff in the bathroom did not detract at all from our enjoyment of the hotel overall, it really is a stellar property & hotel experience."

"My wife and I are seven hotels into a buck-list of 11 "Grand Hotels" across Asia - Hotels across SE Asia that have been around for circa 100 years and formed the essential stops of Asian Tours of the early 1900s. So we came to the Stand looking for old-world charm and a glimpse of restored historical splendor. Like many of the other hotels on our list - including the likes of the Peninsular HK, Mandarin & Oriental Bangkok, The E&O Penang and the Metropole Hanoi - The Strand has done an amazing job at bringing modern travel experiences and services into a building created in the Victorian Era, while still delivering on the classic styling and service. The hotel has seen harder days, even being used as a stable for horses during WW2, but has been beautifully restored and fitted with 5-star features, including a great gym and swimming pool. The rooms are all from the original hotel (unlike other Grand Tour hotels which have added more modern annexes to the original building) and so they come with a bit of compromise in terms of fit-out. But they are generally large rooms with lovely decor. One thing to be aware of is that the rooms facing the front of the hotel get a lot of street noise, so if noise at night is an issue for you, look for something at the back of the hotel. The Cafe and Bar at the hotel are top class and the staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. And the high tea in the Cafe is a must, even if you are not staying at the hotel. Very similar to the Hight Tea offering at the Peninsular HK. Overall this is a beautiful hotel providing a wonderful mix of history and luxury. If you are just after modern 5-star luxury in Yangon, then there are a few other (possibly better) options."

"What a delight; a one night staycation with my 12 year old son and we savoured every moment. This hotel gets it just right and we would return at the drop of a hat. Unobtrusive yet present, warm but not falsely so, the service levels were as impressive as the decor and ambience. A fab place from which to explore and equally to retreat."

"This is a once in a lifetime chance to stay in what only can be described as a Classic era hotel. Over 100 years old and is still the 5 star hotel it was in the 1900's. Beautifully appointed rooms, the service is superb. The bar area and the restaurants are all tastefully decorated . We did have a front room which was a little noisy but no too big an issue. Try the Strand Sour in Sarkies. Amazing. Don't miss sitting in the peacock chairs in the main foyer !"

"We really loved our stay at The Strand hotel, we had a room on the first floor with a butler desk outside our room. Thank you to our butler Hnin Ya Htwe for the steaming hot coffee on demand, and the fresh fruit, my husband loved the Nashi pears. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. We took advantage of the spa and pool area and really enjoyed our couples massage, Thank you to my masseur Phoo Phoo, you have amazing hands, I felt so relaxed after my aromatherapy massage, my husband enjoyed the traditional massage as well. The Pool area is large with comfortable day lounges. We enjoyed High tea with option for a western style platter or Myanmar high tea. The breakfast spread was impressive, I enjoyed the Energy juice combination which set us up for the day. There is a fantastic shop which sells Burmese artefacts located in the corridor leading to the pool/spa area, the quality and range of items are in my opinion really good, and we purchased a large elephant bell to bring home as a memento of our Myanmar trip. Thank you Chandra for helping us decide, and then going the extra mile to wrap the package for us to take home, a great job and it got home in one piece. Beatrice, lovely to meet you, great to chat to an insider about life in Myanmar. We felt lucky to be able to stay at the Strand, and enjoy what they had to offer, I would highly recommend staying here, the staff really look after you. Thank you."

"So much to love about the Strand. Some of the nicest people who seem sincerely interested in your wellbeing and making your stay absolute perfection. The breakfast was amazing and the service even better. I wish I could remember the name of the server. They go out of their way to make sure you have the same servers each time, same butler, concierge etc so they get to know you and your likes. The fruit in the room was a very nice touch. The grapes were the best I’ve had and reminded me of the ones I had as a child. Plump, with seeds but juicy and crisp. You know the ones that use as “eyeballs” on Halloween. I must have had multiple dozens of cups of tea. My butler would bring it whenever we wanted! The air conditioning was up to spoiled American standards. On the first day they ironed a few things for me to perfection. I wish I could remember all the names. Suzy was on the amazing butlers. The other gentleman was fantastic too. As for concierge - I can’t recommend Albert highly enough. He arranged tours, helped us with travel arrangements, how to change money, etc. Outstanding. Lots of perfect practical advice. Nothing is perfect. A few notes -1) hotel is in a more urban part of town so if you are looking for a retreat away from the city this is NOT it. Inside yes, outside no. 2) The room is beautiful but not enough lighting. We asked for more Lamps and they happily provided. I think the hotel underwent an update in the last two years or so. In any event this is the way historic building should be done!!!"

"We had an excellent stay at the strand. the service is outstanding and the staff makes sure you feel special . We got offered a free upgrade and a late check out upon arrival. Best overall service we have experienced in Myanmar so far. The restoration of this iconic building has been beautifully made and there is lots of attention to detail. We'll be back :)"
